Our Reception programme for children aged 4-5 years builds on the foundations developed in Nursery, supporting children as they become increasingly confident, independent and engaged learners.
Following the British Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), children continue to learn and develop through seven key areas:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Literacy
- Communication and Language Development
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
- Physical Development
Vietnamese language activities are also included in our programme.
At Little Giants, children continue to learn through a combination of purposeful play, hands-on experiences and teacher-guided activities. They are encouraged to explore, ask questions, solve problems and apply their skills independently.
Literacy and Communication
Children continue with Read Write Inc. Phonics, developing their knowledge of letter sounds, blending and early reading and writing skills. Stories, conversations and a language-rich environment help develop vocabulary, comprehension and confident communication.
Mathematics
Children build their understanding of numbers, counting, patterns, shapes, measure and early mathematical concepts through practical activities and problem-solving. They are encouraged to explain their thinking and apply their mathematical skills in everyday situations.
Learning Goals
Our Learning Goals help us celebrate each child’s progress and plan meaningful next steps for their individual learning and development. Children have regular opportunities to practise, develop and apply their skills through play, guided activities and everyday experiences.
